@macprime Jaaa, einen Apple #Newton „Personal Assistent“ hatte ich damals auch! Er war seiner Zeit weit voraus, wurde aber vom zu Apple zurückkehrenden #SteveJobs abgeschossen und ist wohl der Grund, warum iPhones auch heute noch keinen Stift haben dürfen. Der Newton wurde vom weniger durchdachten aber billigeren und weniger Batterie saufenden #PalmPilot abgelöst. Bis später das #iPhone den Beginn der heutigen Smartphones definierte.

@johnmacintosh I’m more of a Palm series person. It all started with the #PalmPilot 1000 from Palm Computing (formerly 3Com) for me. Later, I bought a Palm m505 after my girl friend broke my original Pilot 1000 by sitting on it. 😞 The Pilot 1000 was the most power conserving I #PDA ever had. It was powered by two AAA batteries which lasted for 1-2 weeks, depending on use. 💪

My m505 still works. 👍🤣

I've been using a palm m100 to keep track of my todos for the past week. I absolutely love it! It works so much better than a smart phone for me for this task. It turns on pretty much instantly. I have noticed when I turn it off on the clock app, when resuming it takes a second or so to update the clock. Still not bad, and the fact that I have a button that serves to open the Todo app before I've even turn it on means there's nothing in-between me and entering info into the app. That's crucial for me, as I have more times than I can count opened my phone to do something only to be immediately distracted by notifications and forget what I needed to do. And it runs on two AAA batteries! I have a keyboard for it, but I'm still waiting on a USB to serial cable to get drivers for it installed. I'm hoping that with that this is also a good device for writing or journal work.

I will be purchasing the Vision Pro to see if it lives up to the infinite desktop concept (which may likely be the killer app). Super impressed with the engineering Apple did to address a lot of the issues with the current commodity VR headsets.

Meta has a large challenge on their hands, if they don't want to end up this decade's Palm Pilot.

@Mushroot Plugged in the charger and á voila it booted up just fine. These devices had IRDA (Infrared Data Access) so you could send messages/images to people in line of sight (such as those around a conference table). #palmpilot

Back in the day, we had a book called The Palminomicon. It was a poorly-bound collection of writing and lore surrounding programming the Palm Pilot series of PDAs.

I've scanned it, OCR'd it, and added bookmarks.

It's hard to imagine it's of interest to many, but I'm happy to have it out there.

Oh man, close call!

I tried to turn my #Palm #PalmPilot on this morning and got nothing!

Put it on its charger and went to work.

Got home and it turned on! Even better it hadn't lost its memory!

I need to find more things for the palm to do...
