@FilmNoirPosters I had a student group teach that film as part of my Music And Pandemics course #pandemicmusic. It’s on my watch list!
Today’s #PandemicMusic was Bach’s cantata 25 (“there is nothing sound in my body”). We looked at the day’s reading (14th Sun after Trinity — tale of 10 lepers, plus lists of sins/virtues) and its parallel with Bach’s text. We traced structure, particularly in mvt 1 (“can you hear the chorale?”).
We ended with the story of Marseille and the Great Plague, and the question of context. Was cantata 25 written in memory of the 100,000 dead? Probably not. But would they be part of context? Surely so.
And last but not least on this short curated list, #PandemicMusic songs about #ToiletPaper includes this humorous gem:
* The CORONAVIRUS CONCERTO | Rainer Hersch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeSnfWzNe-Y
Okay, toilet paper isn't the CENTRAL theme of this one, but it does come up, and it is funny!

Also in #PandemicMusic songs about #ToiletPaper, we have to include the bagpipes...
bagpipes. and toilet paper. The world is a marvelous place
* Ode de Toillette - The Great COVID19 Walmart Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020- Bagpipe Tribute https://youtu.be/Qx2rW78uuw4
It's worth following the link; permissions are pretty tight so it probably won't imbed. But do yourself a favor and watch it.

* The Swan by Saint Saens, performed by Cello and a roll of toilet paper. No, really. AND, it spawned a copy-cat movement. Safter-at-home was a weird time...
Entitled: "Woman plays cello with toilet paper roll for TP Challenge" https://youtu.be/31Oxq-8cA_c

Heavy Metal has something to say:
* Cattle Decapitation’s “Bring Back the Plague” (hoarding etc.) https://youtu.be/lXGSLKWeVwE
Heavy into social critique. 😉

#PandemicMusic randomly includes various kinds of songs about #ToiletPaper
They're often impolite, typically centered in humor, and also frequently situated as cultural critique:
* Ivor Biggun - Richard The 3rd (He's In The Business Now) (mentions #dysentery) https://youtu.be/ZcaiocWGSNg

Yesterday's content for #PandemicMusic: disease and humor in a musical context. With a warning about toilet paper. Much analysis of hilarity ensued
I had a great day in the classroom, with a lively debate over whether or not classical music is dying AND a chance to teach dysentery songs in my #PandemicMusic class.
To leave everyone with a more uplifting pre-weekend listen, I then dropped in The Covid Song by the #GlacialErratic band from Canada: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goWKw6QrWjQ
Silly bits of the lyrics:
Can a fish get Covid
A fish? Well I'm going to make an assumption that they can
Why else would there be so many masks in the ocean?

@Miro_Collas I teach their performance of a baroque Stella Caeli in my music and pandemics class. Such wonderful performances! #PandemicMusic
That meme array was brilliant! I may borrow that idea for next year's engagement with the writings of Susan Sontag in my #PandemicMusic class!
Today in my #PandemicMusic class, I brought Sontag's ideas of shame and illness to life by telling a brief story of my mom's cancer onset. As a whole, the class dropped their eyes to their desks.
We then unpacked the idea of illness, embarrassment, discomfort, shame... #SusanSontag #IllnessAsMetaphor

#blairschool students in discussion w/composer, conductor, and bass-baritone Damien Geter, with a special focus on his Cantata for a more hopeful future, commissioned during the height of the pandemic and premiered in Nov 2020. I do love wide-ranging #VanderbiltU conversations!

And one more example; it is important to talk about generating content from within rather than without a community for #PublicHealth purposes -- UNICEF #Yemin's #Cholera campaign (2019) and UNESCO's Covid campaign in #Uganda with Bobi Wine and Nubian Li are good examples, and I like to end with #HipHopPublicHealth and their #CommunityImmunity efforts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuTx5ZsDBHc
They have a how-we-did-it video too, so it packages well for class!

But, I suspect the vote for "best music of the #awareness campaign" might have gone differently if I'd waited 10 minutes, since the lecture then moved on to the ways in which individual musicians incorporated elements of public health best practices in their music. Including #BadBunny, whose "En Casita" of May 2020 reinforced recommended practices
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW1a_m14UkI
And now anyone who know me can fall over from shock: me, teaching Bad Bunny. Yup.

Yesterday in my #PandemicMusic course, we were talking about music in education and #awareness campaigns. That included the Chinese #smallpox eradication campaigns of the 1950s (which were brilliant, I might add) but also a global perspective on COVID public health educational bits.
And the winner is: Thai Batman, a teacher who wanted to educate his students AND his community.

#YellowFeverPsalm, music by #JocelynPook, poetry by #JamesStanleyGilbert (d.1906):
You are going to have the fever
Yellow eyes!
In about ten days from now
Iron bands will clamp your brow;
Your tongue resemble curdled cream
A rusty streak the centre seam;
Your mouth will taste of untold things
With claws and horns and fins and wings;
Your head will weigh a ton or more
And forty gales within it roar!

What I love about the piece (#JocelynPook's #YellowFeverPsalm) is that the song has also been released into reversed presentation, restoring the text of the "psalm" as audible:

The poem, "Yellow Eyes," is by #JamesStanleyGilbert, aka “The Poet of Panama.” He wrote a number of poems about life in #Panama before dying of yellow fever on August 14, 1906, in a Panama hospital. See https://www.coloncity.com/jsgilbert.html
