A big day today! The last major component of the #pandemicPond is functionally complete. When I initially dug it I wasn't sure how the electrical would go so I left it for later. Well, 2.5 years later and I dug a trench last week and got the 60ft of heavy duty cable needed to bring it around the side of the house and up the path. It's on! No more 200ft extension cord. Plus I get a bonus outlet for Christmas lights on the fence. Ill fill in the trench when it's not 34°C. 😂 #diy #PortAlberni

The ponds seemed extra glassy today. So many reflections. They got their roughly weekly top up from the rain barrels this morning. It's not good for the ponds to fill them with tap water directly because of the chlorine. So instead I use our rain barrels (200L), and once the rainwater runs out (in May) I fill those with tap water and let it sit for at least a week to allow the chlorine to dissipate before adding it to the ponds. It has worked very well. #PandemicPond #PortAlberni #gardening

A combination of overfilling/overtopping the pond last night with rain barrel water and a cool night has (likely temporarily) killed some of the bad algae that was clouding the water.
