I just reported a a bug in #pango/#gtk that causes my program#paps to insert redundant hyphens when turning source code into pdf. I'm ignoring this bug right now and will still create a new version in the next few days.
GTK folks: do you know of a way (or "the right way") to know if my app/a widget is actually *using* the font specified? For example, if my CSS says to use font "Foo," but that font isn't installed?
I poked a little bit at PangoFontDescription but it looks like it will return the requested font description for the context and not actually what's being used.

If you've just updated your #Linux distro to realise that your fav bitmap #font you use in all your GTK applications does not work any more, then don't waste an hour of confusion, like me, fiddling around with fontconfig, etc.
#Pango has just dropped the support for bitmap fonts.
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/pango/-/issues/386
The only workaround is to convert the bitmap font to #OpenType Bitmap format with #fontforge. Some Linux distros have started to package their popular bitmap fonts (like Terminus) in this format.
(#FreeBSD not affected yet, still using Pango 1.42 at time of posting)
