Yesterday was my club's annual Paper Chase. It was the first time for nearly 2 years that I'd ridden over 100km! The Paper Chase, if you're unaware, is the hare laying blobs of paint at junctions and the hounds (3 teams of 2) setting off 10 minutes behind the hare, trying to work out which direction to go from each junction. All good fun and lots of tracks and trails thrown in, too, some new to me. My team finished second,no prizes, but nice beans on toast at the cafe then a lovely ride home over the Cheshire lanes. #biketooter #cycling #PaperChase #VeganCyclist #biketoot

Growing up, stationary was so much more important. Notes taken by hand. Exams. At school every assignment had to be written in blue fountain pen ink or blue Parker rollerball. No black ink! And *absolutely* no biros. Ever.
I was very much sold the notion of these things being of such utmost importance. Today? It seems far less so.
I mean, sure. I’ve shopped in Paperchase in past 6 months. I bought Christmas Cards for people. But beyond that? Almost every other written aspect of my life has be one digital now. Diaries. Messages. Notes. All of it. And it’s been gradually shifted further and further that way for the past 15 odd years.
I’ve been wandering round our local Paperchase, as it goes through the 40% off stage of its Closing Down sale. A veritable mecca for the stationary needs of Mark in the late 90s and early 2000s. And it’s quite sad to see shelves depleted and stock being cleared.
But (painful though it is to admit it ) as walked around? I couldn’t really find anything I was in actual need of. Not here and now. Not in my day to day life of 2023. Which is equally kind of sad.
The Paperchase brand might've been saved but stripping the brand away from the people who worked in the shops and are now likely to lose their jobs doesn't sit well with me. #Paperchase #Tesco #retail
