My goal is to set up some better parental controls on my home network to avoid age inappropriate ads and video recommendations by rewriting all YouTube hxxpx://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyz URL’s to add _popup e.g. hxxpx://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=xyz as outlined in https://www.educatorstechnology.com/2013/06/a-clever-trick-to-play-youtube-videos.html

I am aware that #Gnome's #ParentalControls have a lot of room for improvement, but I find it really sweet that it's one of the only ones that actually advice the parents to respect their kid's privacy and make an agreement with them on screentime

I have the feeling other parental control tools just try to give parents as much control as possible without realizing how harmful it can actually be for the children

It's great to see TikTok implementing screen-time limits, but the problem for parents isn't individual app limits, it's setting limits across multiple apps because they all offer the same short form video features that are so addictive and influential on kids.

Google and Apple need to allow parents more control to create app groups in their family controls.

The #Google #parentalcontrols scheduling in the #FamilyLink app just isn't good enough.

My son is 16, so his bedtime on Friday and Saturday nights is after midnight. The schedule for his phone should look like this:

School Days (Mon-Fri): Unlock at 7am
School Nights (Sun-Thurs): Lock at 10:30pm
Fri: Lock at 2am on Sat
Saturday: Lock at 1am on Sun

I don't see any way to achieve that in their tools, but #Microsoft nailed it in their #FamilySafety app.

Setting up #Minecraft safely on the #KindleFire is an utter faff. The kids have been playing in stand alone, no internet mode.

Now trying to sort them being able to play with each other without random people adding them as friends. Not happy that you can just add any gamer tag handle & it just connects without any refusal mechanism

Think it’s sorted - switch on add friends, add them to each others account then switch off add friends. Seem to still be able to see each other

What would you recommend?
