Today while teaching I officially entered the phase of life where my kids and my students use the same vocabulary. Not sure whether to be proud or alarmed.

I don't know who decided we needed to teach algebra to people going through puberty, asking for help from people who are dealing with their own hormonal issues, but I'm sure they're burning in hell right now.

Leaving for a trip, without my teenage son, so I do the usual prep : make his favorite dinner (butter chicken) that I know he’ll eat for the next three days, and a pan of brownies. Every time. 💕

Well my kid is ticked at me. Short story, he has a 27% in ELA. I told him he couldn't wrestle anymore and to contact the coach. Kid is mad because I said he had until the end of the week to bring up his grades. He says it's not Friday yet so I'm reneging on our deal. I'm going, sweetie you need more than one school day to bring up a 27%

Doesn't matter, I'm the parent, and first priority is school work!

I spend most Sunday evenings #coaching teens or young adults. I work mostly with kids who have challenges around:

👉 finding a path after pandemic grad

👉 making more positive choices with peers

👉 getting their adults on the same page to move forward through a challenging circumstance

I love Youth Resilience coaching so much. Kids just want to be heard, without judgement.

My teenager reminds me that I responded to an earlier request for assistance with, "I can't. I have a cat."

But cat cuddling *is* harder to interrupt than pistachio eating!

In my defense, I have been working all day to get our former feral to settle into a cuddle as he was having a particularly stressed out day. (The dog's expressions of concern and desire to connect were not helping.)

Son says he is taking a "mental health day" off school right before the finals, came along with me and hubby to brunch.
We enjoy having conversations with him on education, healthcare, gun rights, Europe post Merkel, etc..
