Another day, another thistle, this time on an ornate vent cover. These thistle vent covers can be found on old Galbraith's Stores across Glasgow. This one is one of three on a former Galbraith's on Springfield Road in Parkhead.

Galbraith Stores logo on a shop on Springfield Road in Parkhead.
Galbraith Stores started life as Galbraith and Sons in Paisley in 1894. By 1939, when this shop was built, Galbraith's has 159 grocery stores and 12 butchers shop in the west of Scotland. The company was taken over by Home abd Colonial in 1954.

East End Twins: The identical winged figures by William Kellock Brown, both created from the same mould in the early 1900s. The left hand one is from the top of Parkhead Library, the one on the right is from Dennistoun Library, both in the east end of Glasgow.

The Beehive emblem of the Parkhead & Westmuir Economic Society on the 1915 tenement erected by their successor society The Glasgow Eastern Co-Op. It was founded in 1831 and was one of the earliest mutual aid societies. One aim was to host a shop where its members would be able to buy food at cost-price. Nothing changes...

The wonderfully Art Deco nameplate and stained glass windows above the entrance to the 1907 Parkhead Salvation Army building on Tollcross Road in Glasgow.
Much as I love the font used, I just can't get rid of the nagging suspicion that someone forgot the V in Salvation and had to find a way to squeeze it in later.

This is because all three were the work of the same sculpture, and indeed were even cast from the same mould!
