@j2bryson A similar conclusion on transparency was reached by colleagues whose research suggests that even careful #participatoryDesign may not succeed at producing solutions that resolve all value tensions among the key stakeholders. In such situations they call for value transparency -- "explaining why a decision was made rather than how it was made".

@impactology I highly recommend you check out “The Corruption of Co-Design” by Busch & Palmås. It’s a lucid application of critical theory to #design. I haven’t finished it yet, but the last 3rd of the book is dedicated to developing an alternative approach/posture for design, particularly #codesign and #participatorydesign. So far it’s one of the most exciting design books I’ve read in years. I am a proponent for #participatorydesign, where I had great use of the combination of cardboard and spreadsheets. By using cardboard as tangible design components and collecting all dialogue in spreadsheets, which made it easy to categorize huge transcriptions to get an idea of the actual wishes and design ideas of attendees. But I would love a more interactive tool that could allow participation across time and space to supplement. Are there any such intuitive tools?

I'm looking for a good graphic to exemplify the concept of #ParticipatoryDesign for a presentation, and...

...it's kind of shocking how many images purporting to illustrate this idea are composed entirely of white people without evident disabilities. #racism #ablism
