Interesting linguistic challenge. I had a repeat dentist appointment for repair work, and the dentist asked me what I needed.
I didn't know if it was the same dentist as a couple of weeks ago -- the turnaround is so quick (zero small talk) and they're all masked.
So I explained, in passive voice, never referencing "she" or "you" when describing what the dentist told me last time.
"I was told that I needed X and that if it couldn't be done I needed Y."
