Pat Metheny Group - Still Life (talking)
Another lucky used bin pickup. This one had never been cleaned, and was kinda filthy, but it cleaned up pretty much perfectly.
This is towards the end of the "Brazil" period of the group, and continues that sound and approach. I like what someone said about these albums - Metheny knows the difference between "light" and "lightweight".
Anyway, immaculately recorded, and with the high caliber playing you'd expect.

What a great double album. Everyone's in great form, especially DeJohnette who is all over this thing, playing up a storm. Great sound, too, in typical ECM style.

@weirdofhermiston Alas it looks like Shazam only works off of music playing on the web - I'm not seeing any way to sing to it. However! I discovered I could sing the tune to Google - and after a few tries it did ID it! And I was right it was Pat Metheny, just wrong album - I was convinced it was on "As Falls Witchita, So Falls Wichita Falls" - which it's not; it's also in 6/8, not 3/4. 🙂

Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays - As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls
I am certain this is the first Pat Metheny Album I heard, back in '81 (it was #1, after all), and for whatever reason, it was love at first listen. It combined melody, improvisation, layered composition, cool instruments (talking drum!), soundscapes...it was emotional and rigorous.
I don't think he's ever outdone this album. But he's come close.

Pat Metheny - Side Eye NYC
Listening to this it's hard to believe it's a live album...and it makes me sad that I missed their date in Boston in 2021 when they came to the Wilbur.
These folks are just locked in, with Metheny in his late 60s and his bandmates in their 20s. Playing a mix of old and new material (boy, Metheny has been consistent in his *approach* while varied in his output over 40+ years).
Great recording and pressing.

Als tiener in de sixties speelde hij in de band van #WayneCochranAndTheCCRiders. Maar vanaf de jaren 70 begon hij met les te geven aan de universiteit van Miami, richting bassgitaar, waar hij #PatMetheny ontmoet, samen nemen ze in 1974 het album #Jaco op, dat officieel pas veel later werd uitgebracht.
