My sister, who speaks English but no germanic languages, didn't understood a thing. It was quite a fun experience. I'm sad dialects and patois are getting extinct because I just love the diversity. I went to Alsace, were a "patois" called "alsacien" is called. It varies from town to town but is understandable by every speaker. As the majority of patois in France, it is becoming extinct. A native speajer told me "if you speak Dutch and English you will understand it" and then said something very specific about the different accentuation of the language from town to town in alsacien. I wasn't able to grasp the nuance, but I indeed understood the main point! #Patois #languages #linguistics
