It's no great secret Asian societies are decades behind the west is recognition and acceptance of women's #equality and #LGBT rights. These societies are all much more #patriarchal than Western societies in the 21st Century, largely a result of the wide spread of Confucianism in East Asia and Hinduism, Catholicism, and Islam in South and Southeast Asia.

Now that they have found ready markets in the West, their norms are finding fertile ground among disaffected Western men and boys.

The reason many #christians and most #evangelicals will never be convinced that #climate change exists is because they believe their god has a #divine plan. To #challenge god's divine plan is to doubt the #wisdom of god. This results in #punishment much like a child getting punished by the #father. In this case, according to their #legend, punishment means #burning in #hell or eternal #damnation or not going to #heaven. #Fear is a big #motivator in #patriarchal #societies to deny climate change.

Most compelling is the idea presented that the danger of #arctic survival is preferable to living in the violence that comes from the #patriarchal #racist #capitalist systems (rather than a system that values all people equally). In arctic survival, one consents to the activity/risk. Nature has no agenda, doesn't desire power. I get it. I don't like being cold, but i get it!

The obvious answer to the return of #HeroinChic and the rise of fascism would be that fascism lauds the supposed "discipline" of the slender body, and the #WhiteSupremacy of one very specific body type. Another obvious answer would be that fascism, being inherently #patriarchal and #sexist, does not value powerful women but instead prefers them to look weak and docile. The super skinny look of #Y2K fashion fits both of these aspects of fascism.

But, like, it can't be that obvious, can it? Or is it that obvious and I just want it to be deeper so I can overanalyze it and feel like I'm giving some great insight when really I'm doing nothing?

"Their jarring appearance is meant to drive home the notion that Israel, which portrays itself as the Middle East’s lone democracy, could morph into a chilling #dystopia where women are stripped of their rights.

"Atwood’s 1985 novel about a futuristic #patriarchal society where the robed handmaids are forced to bear children for leaders, has reemerged in recent years as a cultural touchstone thanks to the popular TV series. Its themes of female subjugation and male domination have resonated with women today who see threats in limits on abortion rights, or in Israel’s case, in the rise of its #conservative, #religious government.

"The government, Israel's most right-wing ever, is overwhelmingly male. Only nine out of 64 members of #Netanyahu’s coalition are women. Ultra-Orthodox parties, which are key components of the coalition, deny inclusion to women members entirely.

"Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said men and women should not be permitted to serve together in military combat units, while his governing partners have voiced support for discrimination against #LGBTQ people and #Palestinian citizens of Israel."
