He later presented the Hammer Films produced #JourneyIntoDarkness (1968–69). McGoohan received two Emmy Awards for his work on #Columbo with long time friend, Peter Falk, which he was involved in various capacities between 1974-2000.

Best remembered by horror fans as Dr. Paul Ruth in Cronenberg's #Scanners (1981). Later appearances included Braveheart (1995), A Time To Kill and #ThePhantom (both 1996).

From everything I've read about Patrick McGoohan, he was likely bipolar and took to drinking to numb out the pressures of making THE PRISONER, which caused him to be mean and self-destructive and even fall out with Lew Grade, his financial angel. And this obviously hurt his career, even though he was still winning Emmys in the 70s. There is no way that a fierce creative genius like him would be tolerated in today's landscape. At what price innovative art? McGoohan knew and it got to him. You can see how rapidly he aged in those post-PRISONER movies, in which this once spry and handsome man looked ten years older than his real age. He could still deliver the goods, of course. But what a sad story.

Some interesting stuff from Peter Falk on Patrick McGoohan. Apparently, McG rewrote some of the COLUMBO episodes he was involved with as well! And several of the scenes that Pat wrote and directed were used as exemplars for the show's other writers.

"Very rarely in television will you find a director place the camera up near the ceiling of a huge ballroom and encompass an area that is so big you might have a bullfight in it. And these two tiny figures walk in and out of light. Then there's the contrast when you go from that great height, and come down in close. Patrick is wonderful in terms of contrast. Fast and slow. Light and dark. Loud and soft. All those things he manages to combine in the way the scene is conceived."

And Falk knew his stuff. Let's not forget that he was tight with Cassavetes.

The two men became friends and drinking buddies. And I suspect Falk's kindness kept McG's creative mind alive.

From Rupert Booth's bio: Orson Welles was intimidated by the intensity of a young Patrick McGoohan after seeing him on stage. But in 1955, Welles invited McGoohan to audition for his own stage adaptation of MOBY DICK. As McGoohan performed, Welles was talking in the dark. McG stopped. Welles demanded to know why. McG said, "I thought you might like to listen." "I can listen and talk at the same time," said Welles. "Keep reading."

And so McGoohan did, with Welles prattling on, thus passing off McG further. McGoohan threw down his script and stormed off in anger. Welles chased him down and immediately offered him the role of Starbuck. The play ran for three weeks in London. And, damn, THAT would have been something to see!
