So here’s a fun fact. In the US women got the right to vote in 1920. So that made them full citizens, right? Well, turns out there was a 1907 law called the Expatriation Act (repealed 1940) that said that if a woman married a non-citizen immigrant she lost her citizenship and would have to apply for naturalization when he became eligible. Also, married women could only vote under their husband’s surname (until 1975).
