I made the mistake of reading deep into the comments on an Instagram post about someone's attempt to burn the American flag.

As you might imagine, there was plenty of "love it or leave it" and other knee-jerk idiocy.

I'm still not ready to burn my family's old flag, but I won't hesitate if/when it loses all meaning.

I don't really have "#patriotism," never have. I have a borderless love of everyone, all people, all cultures, all species, every planet and atom and sliver of the Cosmos.

So I don't really say "happy 4th." America isn't really "free" anyway, never has been.

So have a SAFE 4th.

Patriotic songs are *not* hymns (at least, not hymns *to God*) and therefore have *no place whatsoever* in the liturgy.
