Berlin's recorded in 176.4 KHz 24bit HiRes audio, should be super fine for a decent 222 session.

Clappy new fetch.
Happy New Stretch!

I guess I'm the last person on earth to find out about , it's pretty cool; it would be very easy to overuse it, but I think it could also be really useful as a tool for fooling around with making soundscapes from melodies.

Here's a recording "Tiger Jig" (an 1868 tune) slowed down 800%

at some point, I intend to rewrite my as a algorithm. It's a really clever algorithm that I've been meaning to gush about.

The algorithm is mostly your run-of-the-mill overlap-add phase vocoder, but it does two very important things. Rather than worry about phase preservation, it scrambles phase entirely, which gives everything that "airy" sound characteristic to paulstretch. Secondly, window size is supplied in seconds rather than samples, which is a way more musical way to think about it. It also encourages much larger window sizes than usual, which is another important aspect of the paulstretch sound.

I actually did some work on today! Made a tiny tweak to my implementation to make it possible to read files from disk (via drwav) rather than from a in-memory buffer. This means that input files can be of arbitrary size which is a very good thing.

The new functionality can be enabled by calling sp_paulstretch_wavin instead of sp_paulsynth_compute:

git.sr.ht/~pbatch/soundpipe/tr

This is already being used in a standalone command line utility included in . Here you can see it in action:

git.sr.ht/~pbatch/monolith/tre
