Jeff Mateer said he resigned after realizing the AG used public resources to hire an outside lawyer to help Nate Paul.

While he's not among the employees who sued under whistleblower protections, his resignation was public sign of serious trouble there. Mateer said because he challenged Paxton about Paul, he knew that meant the end of his employment.

This morning walking the dog, we passed the neighbor's truck and construction work trailer as he and a buddy prepared to head out. The cab door was open, radio blaring NPR.

The journalists were debriefing the apparent #Paxton impeachment defense strategy, which is obviously the equivalent of kicking up sand in the sandbox when you don't like what's happening. (The trial ended early yesterday for the chaos)

We should reject that notion that #Texas isn't paying attention. They are.

#Murr said #Paxton “turned the keys of the office of attorney general” over to #NatePaul. “He is not fit to be the attorney general of #Texas,” Murr said.

“We do allege that he committed crimes,” Murr said & added, “We don’t have to show some kind of quid pro quo” to establish that Paxton's conduct should result in #impeachment. The goal of this impeachment, he said, is to protect the state from the attorney general.
