Julian Gough, who wrote the End Poem for Minecraft, says he owns the words because he refused to sign a contract.

Hmm.

This was by his own account work-for-hire and though he'd met the Minecraft creator Markus once he wasn't, despite the headline, his "friend".

He was paid $20,000, a lot for 9 pages regardless of the later billion dollar sale to Microsoft.

IANAL, but if this ends up in court I don't think he'll win.

I recently got a message asking me if I could draw something, to a very tight deadline, and "not #paid, but credited." I actually feel like a legit #artist now, getting messages like this is a rite of passage 😂
