In their infinite wisdom my company decided to configure the mail servers to detect the #payload and then replace it with an informative text file with 10 times the byte count of the actual worm.
This was then happily sent on to everyone that was on the original recipient list, thereby increasing the network cost 10 fold at least temporarily. They also added the file to all the Outlook read-receipts.
I received such notifications for well over half a year (with decreasing frequency).
And that’s one of my war stories. :)

Gli #esperti hanno notato che questa settimana #Emotet ha ripreso la sua attività e dopo una “pausa” di tre mesi ha ricominciato a inviare spam dannoso.
Finora, gli #specialisti della #sicurezza delle #informazioni non hanno trovato alcun #payload aggiuntivo. Sembra che il #malware stia solo raccogliendo #dati per future campagne di spam.

That includes #peer reviews, giving free talks in other agencies and institutions, attending various meetings and conferences not directly involved in their work, and so on.
It is not enough to just #strike anymore. People are burnt out because of the mismanagement of #universities and academic institutions.

I know it was there before I deployed the device because I connected and made sure it was there, but after returning with it to check the #loot it didn't have any and the payload.txt was missing.
Will need to investigate what I might have done wrong...
