What if everyone in a company got paid the same amount. That company would fail, right, because there have to be motivators, winners and losers, right?

Updated my pay transparency info for late 2022. This will get updated in the next 6 weeks due to 2023 changes.

is important to make sure that people, especially marginalized people, are able to negotiate for better conditions. Being told not to discuss your pay by your employer in the United States is illegal.

I currently earn $185k with a 15% AB, LTI and RSU. I am an immigrant Staff Engineer with 10 years exp; no degree in Los Angeles, CA.

What do you earn?

This is a good overview of how corporate America tries to weasel out of new laws, but it doesn’t note that the Washington Post itself has yet to board that train except when state regulations require it. (For example, the Post complies with California law by advertising a $140k-$180k range for a San Francisco-based Apple beat reporter.)

This is fascinating. Also, I can say from personal experience that yes, both WB and ABK pay less than they should.

The new law here in California is great, but some of the ranges being put up by companies... Yikes.

Californians, remember that companies with more than 15 employees now have to make salary ranges for positions available to _applicants and employees_.

If you don't see a salary range for a position, you have a right to ask and see it! govdocs.com/california-pay-tra

New laws are giving workers access to salary information for the first time. Yet employers have long had access to aggregated pay info that they use to benchmark salaries. Assoc. Prof. @pereztruglia looked at how benchmarking affects pay: haas.org/3TWaHCD

@990000 This is excellent news!

I've been a keen advocate for for some time for a number of reasons

In particular, startups and tech organisations have been notorious for providing little information upfront about salary and benefits and it often feels like a race to the bottom
