Good news! Recovered all the files from that long neglected 5.25". BETTER news! The original author updated Temple of Death in 2006 and released it as freeware. So, I needn't bother uploading it, you can find the game right here:

archive.org/details/temple_201

Give it a shot, the interface is cool!

Is that an address smashed into the filenames? How... unique.

Recovered my original 5.25" floppy for Temple of Death, 1990, PC Disk Quarterly, after discovering it's not archived online anywhere I can find.

If the recovery is a success (doubtful from the errors...) I'll put on Archive.org. This was a neat game I played when I was a kid.

As much as it pains me, I am going to part ways with my first purchased PC game: Wing Commander Deluxe Edition, Includes Secret 1 & 2 (Big Box 3.5") (PC, 1992). Such a fun game. The posters and news bulletin inside are so fun. It will be missed.

Ok, I'm not sure who needs to hear this, but Hill's Science Diet premium cat food in gravy boxes are *precisely* sized for 3.5" floppy disks. You're welcome.

@dec_hl Well, I’d say no need to keep MS /anything/ safe. Maybe it should be ported to or .

Expanding on the previous question, if it was 1985 again which OS would you prefer?

The IBM BIOS from 1995 is painfully limited, a consequence of specialization. I hereby give retrospective credit to Award and American Megatrends for being ahead of the game. So...how did you spend your Sunday? 😅

That came with some diskettes, mostly backups but some slacker was playing GAMES on this business machine. Files dated 9/30/91 and include CODEBRAK.EXE, STICKS.EXE, BLOCKS.EXE, DOTS.EXE, HANGMAN.EXE, JACKS.EXE.

Yes of course I used a USB diskette drive to back them up on my server first :-)

The machine also has not as I'd misreported, which is, frankly, neat. I had never used IBM's "ed" editor until now.

Throwing a question into the void for any old hands - Does anyone know how single-segment COM files are loaded on IBM PCs with < 64K RAM installed?

DOS itself could run on machines with as little as 32K. The MS-DOS 2.0 Technical Reference specifies that COM files are loaded at 0100h and their SP initialized to FFFEh, providing 64K to the loaded program. But this couldn't possibly work if the machine itself had less than 64K.

For these machines, was DOS smart enough to start SP at the top of installed memory instead of at FFFEh?
