Ever since that first Blu-ray drive caused my PC to power off when connected, I've been having random power drops while gaming. The new drive did the same thing, but still worked on non-direct USB ports. So I guess it's time for some troubleshooting and replacing parts. :/
Beyond disconnecting some internal USB extensions, I suspect I'll have to start with the power supply, and follow that with the motherboard.

The dream of the ‘90s is alive. Cleaned up my Kensington Orbit Fusion trackball. I’d used this for a bit, got annoyed, and am ready to give it another try. Keyboard is a Unicomp New Model M.

Anyone have a good book for teaching kids (8-12-ish) computer concepts. Not a programming book, but things like CPU, memory, storage and how they work.

For PC World, I reviewed the Acer Swift X 14.
It packs serious punch for a 14-inch laptop, including RTX 4050 discrete graphics. YouTube video editing? No problem. Cyberpunk 2077 ray-tracing? Actually playable.
But, the battery life...it's not great.

Samsung QD-OLED vs. LG OLED paper White monitors...who wins?
Now that we're halfway through 2023, it seems a clear trend has emerged. Samsung QD-OLED monitors are better.
Brighter, superior color performance, and available in larger panel sizes at the same price.

If I was (budget) upgrading my old gaming rig from 2013 (i7-3770), what should I get? I've since upgraded it with a GTX 1080, so I'm okay-ish GPU-wise for the time being. But I was looking an ASUS PRIME B760M-A with an i5-12600K, as well as some 3600GHz RAM and my first ever NVMe SSD. Opinions are welcome! #pchardware #gamingPC
#PCGaming #PCHardware question: Does the AMD Risen 7 7840U actually exist? I can't seem to find any laptops that actually have it.
Ideal would be something small/compact, 14" or smaller

i have not yet set my #PC up at the new apartment. my desk is still in pieces, and the room that will be my home office is still the “overflow” room full of boxes. but on this lazy afternoon, i am really missing it! i’ll probably make it a point to try to clear out enough space over the next couple days so i can set it back up. it’s just so much work!
this is a photo from a simpler time when my #computer was actually set up and functional. it’ll be back soon, i swear! (swearing to myself, mostly.)

The #NVIDIA RTX 4070 is an infuriating graphics card. It performs well, and the power draw is decent.
The price of discounted cards doesn't seem too unreasonable in 2023, until you realise how badly under specced the card is for a 70 tier card, and that it performs like a 60 tier part.
If my six year old 1080Ti dies on me, the 4070 is what I'd replace it with. However, with what I'm currently playing, the value isn't there to justify an upgrade at current prices.

I’m a fan of the YouTube channel “Modern Vintage Gamer”. He has done a few videos on games that were extremely well optimized so they could run on weaker hardware. These videos are often called “The Impossible Port”. Anyway after watching some of these videos it made me wonder how much better software would run if it was better optimized.

Hello, world!
I've moved server, so it's time for me to pin a new #Introduction post!
I’m Andy, or Mouse, if you prefer. I’m an IT guy, a professional sysadmin, and sometimes a PC gamer.
When time and money permit, I travel to theme parks and ride rollercoasters, often across Europe, and sometimes beyond.
I own cameras. When I do stuff, sometimes I take photographs.

Gamer aesthetics (RGB everything) must die.
I should not have to buy a something that flashes like the Vegas Strip at night if I want an optical mouse with on-the-fly adjustable DPI. That's useful for regular work, not just gaming.

Great, might be time to rebuild my PC again. I guess with hindsight, it was a bit optimistic to run a 12-core Ryzen 9 off a 140mm AIO cooler in my NZXT H1.
Let's hope I can keep the list of "while we're in theres" under halfway under control.
Time to shopping for the smallest #MiniITX case that can accommodate a 2-3 slot graphics card and a 280mm AIO cooler. Anybody got a recommendation for a high quality case?

In event viewer I get critical event "Event ID 41 , Source: Kernel-Power", bugcheck code is 0.
Nothing weird in event viewer before the forced reboot.
So according to this https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/performance/event-id-41-restart
...this points to power supply being faulty, but why would it happen only with certain games and browser use and actually be more stable with high gpu loads?
My guess was memory, but memory check went ok earlier, running it again after this.
Any ideas welcome...

All my fans are in, my Arctic Cooling 360mm AIO is up and running, and all the cabling work is done. It's been a long road to get something this nice, and I'm super happy to have it. Not sure 10 fans is actually needed, but it sure as heck looks pretty :D
Does anyone still use DDR2 anymore? Just took these four or of an old machine and I hate throwing this sort of thing away. #ddr2 #pchardware #pcmemory
