There's still scattered burn and surreal twice burned areas on the third day backpacking, but there's also unburned and healthy after the burn areas. My plans had to morph a little and I got in tagging a peak right at the end!

It's been a little over 2 years since I've had an opportunity to do any hiking in Colorado, although I've been through several times since then for work - hiking just hasn't been on the agenda.

Firming up plans for after a meeting in Boulder next month, which will hopefully include some peak bagging above 14k ft and some alpine tundra views like the one below, captured during a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park in 2018.

Not able to run distance on snowy trail, I went off trail to scramble a ridge line instead. I’ve covered half this ridge before so it was fun trying the other half and tying it all together.

I’m not climber (too slow), but a class 2-4 ridge like this is fun to feel progress traversing across. Had to cut around some snow and exposure beyond my ability, but I aways found a way forward inch by inch.

I've had a bunch of little hiking goals for the area in southern Trinity County, California that have been sitting and stewing in the back of my mind, some for 5-6 years. Over the last couple weeks, I got out to complete them. It was a grand trip even if it left one goal still unsatisfied and the car came back on the donut. (AKA the "compact spare".) Summited both Pic de Montmalus (2748m) & Pic dels Collels (2746m) before lunch. Lovely view over all the lakes of Els Pessons which we visited Friday morning.

Wind was nippy on top and my hands were freezing. Once we descended back to the neck, we got out of the wind again.

Just wrapped up a family roadtrip to visit family in the DC area last week and picked up some more state high points along the way!

I think we saved the best for last with Spruce Knob in West Virginia (photo) at 4,861 ft/ 1,481 m.

Also bagged:
- Hoosier Hill, IN - 1,257 ft/ 383 m
- Campbell Hill, OH - 1,549 ft/ 472 m
- Point Reno, DC - 412 ft/ 126 m

I was able to knock out the Oklahoma state high point on March 1 and several other high points over the following week including:

- Oklahoma border high point
- 7 additional Oklahoma county high points
- 4 Texas county HPs
- 3 New Mexico county HPs
- Pima County, AZ HP (Mount Lemmon)
- 9 general interest HPs

I'm at 41 HPs so far this year with a goal of reaching 120. Most of my high-pointing is lumped into trips so plenty of time to reach that goal!
