Today's #PeakGuardian article (which I admit isn't as tooth-grating as usual). This *did* get on my tits though:
2. Sew your own luxury curtains
Surely, in the name of all that's holy, not sewing them yourself is the first step in them being "luxury" in the first place?
π

Where would we be without quality advice like this?
No 1 - Stay indoors π
#PeakGuardian #NoShitSherlock
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/jun/14/uk-heatwave-five-ways-to-stay-cool-and-safe
OK look, can we all just agree that if some nonsense "zeitgeist" thing goes viral, then everyone who gives a shit has already heard about it, so it doesn't require an article in a national newspaper? An espresso martini with parmesan has gone viral - stop the fucking presses.

Today's #PeakGuardian
It really didn't need a whole article. Just wear what you want ffs.

This isn't even #PeakGuardian - it's just poor-shaming.

Two examples from the list:
Number 1 - Reduce your weekly food shop. FFS.
Number 5 - Get out of debt. Oh sure, I'll just snap my fingers and get that done, it hadn't occurred to me!

Sometimes I despair of the Guardian. Flicking through the Weekly (not the news, don't @ me π ) and in the food bit there's a lady saying she makes a lot of traybakes with leftover veg but they turn out a bit boring. The "food writer's" reply: have you tried adding herbs and spices?
I mean #FFS, if I knew you could get paid for dispensing "wisdom" like that, I totally picked the wrong career.

Dear The Guardian,
Seriously? Leave it to Variety or some other bullshit publication. This isn't news.

Also, when we're discussing the impact of #FastFashion on the #ClimateCatastrophe, can we include the preening bullshit of the various #FashionWeek spectacles - the #emissions from the private planes alone are revolting. Not considering them together is just a different variaton of #PoorShaming. Please note I am not excusing the fast fashion industry.

It's been a minute, but we've hit #PeakGuardian. Again.

In this week's #PeakGuardian fluff piece, "I've only just discovered charity shops" π
"Well-chosen secondhand stuff looks better, too. βAdding vintage pieces can bring depth, history and a unique touch to any interior that cannot be replicated with mass-produced items"

FFS.

Another example of #PeakGuardian smugness (don't @ me, I read the Guardian). Because that's the thing when you're poor - you have Β£20 floating about that you don't need to spend on food or electricity or anything. #CostOfLivingCrisis

@colehaddon I don't know if you read the comments on that article but it got an absolute pasting for exactly the reasons you've outlined. I completely resent calling it - pejoratively, as some kind of character flaw -"hoarding". Frankly, the idea of tearing them up and putting them in the recycling is just lazy - there are plenty of places (refuges, hospitals) who would happily accept some of them.

@TheGuardian
After the absolute pasting yesterday's smug, judgemental article by Rhiannon Lucy Coslett received in the comments, I've noticed the two absurd opinion pieces (praising Eva Green for calling professional people she thought good enough for her "peasants" and bemoaning the death of "fine dining") are not open to comments. I don't know who the commissioning editor thinks these articles are aimed at, because it certainly doesn't seem to be your readers. π #PeakGuardian #UKMedia
Books do furnish a room and they make good insulation. On top of that they're a pleasure to read.
What's not to like about having books in your home? Even the ones you haven't read.
