Pan roasted pears for tonight's salad.
I wasn't careful enough with the spatters and now have a little blister on my wrist.
It's for a simple but quite filling salad of romaine, watercress, cucumbers, spiced pecans, and a balsamic vinaigrette.

Pears 'n' hips. First year of getting a decent harvest from the pear tree - it must be five years at least since we planted it. So be warned - they can take a while to settle in! I'm never sure what to do with the big Ramanas rose hips. I know I know - rose hip syrup etc. But they're such a pain to process...

Last year we got permission to use the trees along this field boundary. Well, not sure if we can use the apples, that part looks mown and cared for. But there are a few interesting pear trees. Especially that last one, which I have had my eye on for years. Quite an early variety, yellow pears with a wonderful citric zing, like lime.

It’s been a wet week, so glad for a short break in the weather so I could do some mowing and maintenance on one of our small nursery plots. The bindweed is coming through despite a layer of cardboard and mulch 🙂 Here we have about 220 young trees, mostly rare and endangered perry pear varieties from Central Europe and England.

Fruit trees, 3/3
The #pears didn’t pollinate, except for that one grafted branch that bloomed a different week. It’s loaded with fruit!
The uphill pear still needs heavy pruning. I took at least a third off of all of these trees last fall, and they’re gonna get the chop-chop again this fall. They look pretty good though! And healthier than the peach and nectarine!

@rlcj I inherited two pear trees when I took my plot on. Both heavily pruned December 2020, now blooming nicely. No pears yet, hopefully this is the year for pears but there was a frost last night..... I have also planted a Williams and three Conference pears. I’m learning how to work with colored pencils, and am experimenting with limited palettes. Although it wasn’t intentional, this drawing is a perfect way to celebrate St. Pats day, as it only uses 4 colors: 3 of them are green, and an India red.
