Interesting #boulders in a roughly stacked #seawall
The southern part of the spit separating #Plymouth Harbor from Plymouth Bay has a seawall along the outer shore, above Plymouth #LongBeach. Without knowing where they came from, interpreting the boulders is sketchy. BUT nice coarse crystals in intrusions into #felsic rocks, including big #quartz chunks (top right photo) and blades of #biotite (bottom right).

It made me think about my undergrad #geology class to the Harding #Pegmatite in New Mexico — #lepidolite and other lithium bearing minerals have the most beautiful hues of pinks and purples. Sharing a picture because I think they are pretty.

Something satisfying about pairing up #mineral specimens to their appropriate entries in textbooks.

#Topaz is a #pegmatite mineral, an #igneous rock known for its coarse crystallization. If you are on the hunt for gemstones, like tourmaline and beryl, a well-formed pegmatite is your first stop. This little beauty comes from the mountains of #Colorado and has a nice blue coloration. The chisel-shaped termination is a dead giveaway for topaz.

Bought myself a lot of minerals and stones in Geological museum Hofland today and had interesting en inspiring talks with a few geologists. Learned a lot. Tomorrow it’s party time unpacking my new stones. I will post some photos. Promise. #geology #mineral #rock #pegmatite
