I don't normally post TikTok videos on here, but in this video I talk about the #Pelicanizer at length, and I think it's a good overview of how much work went behind it. Give it a look!

Just dealt with the most *infuriating* bug while trying to add a feature to the #pelicanizer.
I still don't know why it happens, but it has to do with a behavior of dom-to-image that, up until this point, I've been working around by changing my CSS such that I don't have to deal with it.

After using the "Random Post" button, I came across a funny toot about the #Twitter #2FA situation. This is what I used the #pelicanizer to turn it into.
The "Random Post" button really helps with inspiration!
Added a "Random Post" button to the #pelicanizer! I used the #Mastodon #API to gather random posts that are trending in whatever instance you put in (or if you leave the input blank, a random instance!).
It's only a matter of time before this becomes a part of the main site.

Used interact.js to make this div resizable!
On my previous version of this site, I found myself doing something similar to this by resizing the browser window itself. It helps make the word wrapping a little less awkward sometimes.
I did have to do some math to take into account that the div was centered (which the library didn't seem to expect), but it works beautifully on #desktop and #mobile!

Working on toot styling for the #pelicanizer !
It took quite a bit of work to get the media previews to look like this, and I'm not entirely proud of how I did it 😅, but I like the look of the results!
Here is how the Pelicanizer currently renders a few random toots from these Mastodon accounts:

Apparently free access to Twitter's API will continue until the 13th, instead of the 9th. <sarcasm>How generous.</sarcasm>
This means the #pelicanizer will continue to work as-is until then, at least.
They say they will also introduce "a new form of free access", though it's unclear what this means for use cases besides posting tweets (which I'm not doing at the moment). So I'm being forced to watch with bated breath...
Just wrote some code to take a Mastodon post and insert its contents into custom markup.
That's step 1 of implementing a #pelicanizer for Mastodon posts; step 2 will be allowing the user to hide arbitrary letters.
Thankfully, what I have so far works on both :chrome_logo: and :firefox_logo:. Here's hoping it stays that way... 😅
Thank goodness, the API's free!
I've been doing some tests with posts on various Mastodon instances, and they are all going well so far.
