@SallyStrange They did win the , so they can't have been that bad at strategy and tactics. Also ancient masters of quips.

However, yes, their society was garbage, relied on slavery to function, and involved regularly massacring the inhabitants of a nearby city for the lulz. It was certainly no model for anything good.

I'd suggest current enthusiasm stems more from the grotesque reimaginings of and than any actual history.

Better model? Sacred Band🤔
