I nearly wrote this show off, as the premise sounds like a bad comedy sketch. But #pen15 is sweet and funny and captures the lack of self-awareness and extreme emotions of middle school.

I've become bowled over by #Hulu's #Pen15, which in its second half sheds the goofiness of its gimmick to become one of the most tender, emotionally raw dramedies I've seen in years. Kudos to #AnnaKonkle, #MayaErskine and #SamZvibleman for their brilliant mix of humor and pathos.

Episode 3 of #Pen15, in which Maya has her first-ever orgasm then can't stop compulsively masturbating 24 hours a day, made me laugh so hard I literally cried. The funniest show I've seen in a long, long time.

#Pen15 is way more bittersweet and realistic than the goofy comedy #Hulu has been advertising it as. But make no mistake, it's funny as fuck too.
