Why does everything say #pending when they aren’t private accounts? Shouldn’t it just say #following

A lot of my #follow requests have been getting stuck in a #pending status, regardless of whether or not the person I'm trying to follow has manual approvals enabled. If you #unfollow and #refollow them that generally solves the problem. Kinda like a modern version of smacking the side of the thing to get it to work. I've seen a lot of questions about the same thing so hopefully this helps someone!

I have a friend on Mastodon.world who has *not* enabled settings requiring that people be approved in order to follow her. However, my friend request is still #pending. She received the notification but there's nothing for her to click on or approve. I'm using Android app #fedilab

Hey @SDF I think others have commented on this, but a large number of my request to follow are pending. I didn't experience this on other parts of the fediverse before I relocated here with some of the same accounts. For example, I didn't have any issues following rbreich@masto.ai or georgetakei@universeodon.com (leading at removed so as not to tag).

#Hello! Can anyone #help me? I have another Mastodon account on another server for more study focused content but I’ve only been able to #follow a couple of people as my requests to others remain #pending. I’ve had no issues following people on mastodon.Scot here, so is it an issue with that other server I’m on, the server of people I’m trying to follow, or something else?

I’ve really been enjoying using my personal Mastodon @deezy but I’ve found it harder to find interactions on this #SLT account as almost every follow request I’ve made seems to be stuck in #pending limbo. Is this to do with the server I’m on or am I missing something? #help

Folk who I have tried to follow on #mastodonsocial are stuck on #pending - is this a server specific issue? 🤔

I have a couple of questions re #Mastodon. 1. I have Followed a bunch of accounts, but two of them still say #Pending. One belongs to a friend, who hasn't seen any notification and says he didn't change his default settings. I keep thinking it will resolve, but not so far. (Over 24 hours.) 2. I started a second account on a different instance, to see if I could #Follow him there. He doesn't show in a #Search there at all! (He's on Mastodon.online.) Any ideas?
