Tonight is the 41st anniversary of the #Penlee lifeboat disaster. It claimed the lives of 16 people including the entire 8-man volunteer crew of the RNLI lifeboat Solomon Browne, and all those aboard the Union Star coaster they tried to save.

Perhaps you're old enough to remember the #Penlee #lifeboat disaster, which happened 41 years today? A crew of 8 volunteers set out in #RNLI's "Solomon Browne" in hurricane force winds & 18m waves to rescue the crew from a boat whose engines had failed & was drifting towards rocks.

Despite heroic attempts, 16 lives were lost.

When you wake this morning please take a few minutes to remember the eight extremely brave, fearless and selfless lifeboatmen, all sons of Mousehole, who made the ultimate sacrifice on the 19th December 1981. Their courage, dedication, determination, valour and heroism serves as a beacon to us all. Gone but never forgotten...greater love hath no man.
