Perhaps you're old enough to remember the #Penlee #lifeboat disaster, which happened 41 years today? A crew of 8 volunteers set out in #RNLI's "Solomon Browne" in hurricane force winds & 18m waves to rescue the crew from a boat whose engines had failed & was drifting towards rocks.

Despite heroic attempts, 16 lives were lost.

I was just 11 yrs old when this disaster happened and I often still think about it and these selfless, brave souls. It angers me when I see the negative posts about the #RNLI #PenleeLifeboat #RIP

Ugh, woke up really cold and shivery last night, eventually had to venture from under the duvet to freshen up my hot water bottle, get more layers on and take some Paracetamol.

Reminded me of the night of the #PenleeLifeboat disaster 41 years ago today. We lived in #Mousehole then and I remember that wild stormy night, hearing the lifeboat maroons and shivering under layers of bedclothes. Came down in the morning and everybody was crying.

Today we remember the eight extremely brave, fearless and selfless lifeboatmen, all sons of Mousehole, who made the ultimate sacrifice on the 19th December 1981.

On 19 December 1981, the Penlee Lifeboat Solomon Browne, was lost with all hands attempting to rescue the crew of MV Union Star. #PenleeLifeboat #SolomonBrowne #RNLI
