I think I'm annoying Tumblr with my current tin whistle/recorder obsession, so on the off chance there's someone equally new (or not new) and obsessed over here (#tinwhistle #pennywhistle #recorder), the rest of you get to deal with me for a few days.

Anyway, one of the things I am really loving about tin whistle is how cheap basic high D whistles are. Like yes, it does mean you get some questionable quality, but I can get a bunch of whistles in several different materials and designs from a few different brands and see which I like best, all while still paying quite a bit less than I would on pretty much any other single instrument. I'm finding that I like brass best so far as material, and I'm thinking I prefer standard bore to conical, but I have a Clarke Original on its way so I'll have to see if that opinion changes if I'm using an Original vs a Sweetone.

Any #TinWhistle #PennyWhistle players around on here? I have the feeling I'm becoming Too Much on Tumblr and would love people to geek out with.

I've been dabbling off and on, terribly and very inconsistently, for a few years now, but a group has started up doing monthly Irish music sessions and it's motivated me to learn the stuff I thought was too hard before (i.e. anything faster than a very slow song). So far, the songs we started with are easier than I thought, though I definitely have a lot of work to do before I will be able to play at full speed and all the way through.

I definitely need to relearn how to read music, though. I haven't since I took piano lessons from my friend's mom back in high school. :/
