@kangaroo5383 80+ years the US post office offered retail banking services, as do other nations still do, but for-profit banks lobbied to eliminate the no-profit competition in the 1960s. Almost like "free market" advocates can't abide any alternative to profit maximization all the while claiming that the narrow acceptable forms of enterprise is finding the most efficient means and not just the most profitable means. Liberty means choice, except not those choices
