A decent article on why the US has only two major parties. However, it left out the People's Party of the 1890s. A left-wing party, its platform foreshadowed both Progressive-era reforms and FDR's New Deal. The People's Party was very successful in the West and South and, during the 1890s, elected 1 to 5 US senators; 7 to 22 House members; and controlled many state legislatures.

In the right conditions, 3rd parties can succeed.

Re are not fans of everything #China are doing by a long shot, but the #PeoplesParty seem to identify the issues of #monopoly and enforce rules with impactful fines, and block moves that would entrench the #monopoly.
