Nothing is new. I picked up the Coriolis #TTRPG at #UKGE over the weekend. I've been skimming the ship rules.

While the scales are different, the mechanics in my own game, #Perihelion, for movement, long range ship-to-ship weapons, and even the action order of ship crew, are very similar.

Mine are much more hard sci-fi, but yeah, great minds and all that. Nothing is new. Sigh. 😁

Yeah, not too bad of a day of writing. Got all the splat written for #Perihelion's Metaverse/metaspace, as well as some rules cleaned up for building constructs and sims.

Blew away a few cobwebs at least, as the old writer's block has been sneaking up on me recently.

I've taken a bit of a #SelfCare day today, it's been a busy and tiring transition back to work. Feels like it's worked. Not quite spoonless, those days are rare, but definitely something close to it.

So I've killed more darlings and refined more #TTRPG rules. I've revamped the #Perihelion's section covering Surveillance and Sousveillance to use the same mechanics as Social Conflict. Makes sense and seems to work, on paper and with some test dice slinging at least.

4th January. #Perihelion. When the earth is closest to the sun in its orbit. This is an amazing illustration of both classical and relativistic physics:

Kepler's 2nd law tells us that being closest to the sun is the point in its orbit where the earth travels fastest.

Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity tells us that the faster something travels, the more its time is slowed down.

Which is why the first week in January feels the longest week.

Happy #perihelion day, everyone!

Earth's orbit around the Sun isn't a perfect circle. It's stretched out slightly, an ellipse. So, some places are closer to the Sun that others; on average 93 million miles / 150 million km.

Perihelion, which means "near the Sun," is our closest point: about 91.5 million miles / 147 million km. From here, Earth starts moving farther from the Sun clear out until aphelion in July!

For now, Earth is closer to the Sun than the distance from Earth the Sun! Wow!
