Flexible indoor cell achieves 32.5% efficiency

Italian scientists have developed a flexible INDOOR perovskite solar cell with 32.5% efficiency. Their design uses a PET substrate combined with a tetrabutylammonium bromide layer over the perovskite absorber.

Unfortunately, the cutting edge of silicon panels is already at about 25% efficiency, and there's no way to push the material past 29%. And there's an immense jump in price between those and the sorts of specialized, hyper-efficient hardware we use in space.

High performance, low-cost could be commercially available within five years. The -silicon “tandem” cells have been under research for about a decade.
One group, led by Prof Stefaan De Wolf, at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia, achieved 33.7% efficiency with a tandem cell in June.
