Ooh, while we were on vacation my backyard camera caught the #perseid #meteor shower on the night of Aug 13! Unfortunately the camera isn't all that expensive and creates an artifact where fast-moving meteors look like dashed lines, but it's fun that I can compile a timelapse like this!

Last night I remembered that the Perseid meteor showers were still going. Around midnight, I went up to a hammock on top of the hill in my backyard. The wind kicked up and tickled my whole body with perfect air. (We’d had a blast furnace day.) Gazing at the Milky Way, I said, “I love you,” out loud to everything. Also “Mother.” With the passing of each shooting star, I said the mantra of compassion, OM MANI PADME HUM.

I guess I had a lot to say.

I spent the early hours of this morning mashing the A button to wish on all the shooting stars. I couldn't find Celeste out on my back deck, but I'll invent my own DIY for all the star fragments that show up in my yard later. #Perseid #ACNH

It's 3 AM and I just got home from meteor watching. Things picked up and I was pleasantly surprised. In the hour and a half I was lying in that dark field I saw at least 30 (I stopped counting at 12). 75% of them were very quick and small, but the remaining were good sized and one was so big and bright that its tail hung around for at least 5 seconds.

By far the most meteors I have ever seen in one sitting.

Saw the #Perseid Meteor Shower with my wife this morning. Amazing to see, and equally amazing that we can track and predict these things.

#Perseid is super cool right now. Saw two of the longest largest brightest #meteors I've ever seen within seconds of each other. Lit up the sky for less than two seconds but would have been miles long. Wow. What a treat.

Saw about a hundred of them, but this was the only one I captured.
