Unfortunately the camera isn't all that expensive and creates an artifact where fast-moving meteors look like dashed lines, but it's fun that I can compile a timelapse like this!

This is a composite image of select meteors from the Perseids meteor shower which peaked in the early morning of 8/13/23. The meteors were selected from several hours of timelape, the moon was properly exposed and also brought back into frame. I wish I'd set up a camera or something, but it was probably good that I was looking at it not through a camera - hoping there's more in the next few days!!

It took me a while but I managed to get a Perseids meteor on camera! I didn't see this one with my own eyes, but clearly my camera caught it. It's hard to see in the expansive star field but there is a streak in the sky at the center of the bottom third of the picture. @AmyZenunim Last night I went to photograph the #perseids. I took 420 photos, all except 13 were 30s exposures back to back (almost 4 hours). I have 88 satellite streaks that I can see at first hand, but some of them are faint ones I discovered while zooming on the 12Mpx images. Also 11 plane streaks, and only 8 meteorites and 4 probable. Just look at that, 3 satellites and one meteorite :(((

It took a couple of seconds to pass behind my house. Could it have been a Perseid? I've only seen them in the past as bright pinpoints lasting for less than a second or so. It was far too large to be a satellite, too fast to be a plane and the light & shape was totally wrong anyway. Large, lumpy. Reddish glow, not lights. #space #Perseids
