I'm in central North Carolina, Zone 7b, Trewartha code Cfhl. Last winter it got down to 11 deg F (-12 C).
The tree would need to be self-fertile ; prefer non-astringent.

A walking senryu composed on my morning walk. Persimmon, despite a clear sense of image, won’t haiku. Then the article on haiku structure, which frankly went over my head, but the middle line of pandiculation popped into my head fully formed & the rest quickly followed. It was a good opportunity to formally do shahai, see below. #Haibun

There’s a tree on my morning “pandiculation," more commonly called, morning walk. With ripe orange fruit it's lovely to look at. No one picks them, & I don’t like the taste, so I don’t. Result, they fall on the ground & people walk on them. The sidewalk becomes a nasty brown & orange mess
