Hi. My name is Haley, and I apparently just learned how to do basic math. Did you know we are now 11 years further from International Shoe (1945) than Shoe was from Pennoyer (1878)?

#Law #PersonalJurisdiction #Trial USDC in Texas granted summary judgment, even though we had won in OR. Goes without saying that the Fifth Circuit affirmed.
The Qarmat Ali vets were without a remedy.
And having been through that, it’s kind of disturbing to watch law profs debate without any real sense of the impact on people. (Also, pssst Calder effects test is dead.) //

#Law #PersonalJurisdiction #TrialLawyers We had jurisdiction under the Calder effects test. While our $81 million dollar judgment was on appeal, SCOTUS issued Walden which essentially overruled Calder. Our case was reversed and transferred from to USDC S Tx. where the trial court had been sitting on a summary judgment motion in other related cases. The trial court refused to consider the evidence of causation that supported our verdict. 2/
