Old vs. modern #oats. The plant on the left is a naturalized weed from the Spanish colonial days in California. The plant on the right is a modern oat variety planted to see how it would do. The modern version set far more seed and grew more vigorously to a larger size than the wild version. (Plus the modern version has smooth instead of hairy seeds). #PlantBreeding #UrbanFarming
