Nightwatching is circumstances and characters surrounding the creation of Rembrandt’s famous painting, Nightwatch which depicts a group portrait of militiamen. As usual in Greenaway fashion, stunningly neoclassical compositions and chiaroscuro are accompanied by plenty of nudity and sex, conspiracy and historical intrigue. Satunning: visual symmetry, use of background/foreground, lighting, insanely elaborate mise-en-scene.... Drowning by Numbers is just out of this world. The work of a true obsessive compulsive. The plot involves women, all named Cici, drowning their husbands. #PeterGreenaway #britishcinema
