#NowPlaying #PeterHammill Dear sad song, why do you live rent-free in my head? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9c1_ecde-s
Very tempted by this, but that's a lot of hydrocarbons. 7-LP boxed set of "Progressive Sounds In UK Alternative Music 1979-89", compiled (and re-mixed, in some cases) by Steven Wilson. Lots of favourites on here, including #Cardiacs and #PeterHammill - also, possibly the first time Hammill and Lydon have appeared on the same release, despite the former being saddled with the latter's "official punk rock seal of approval" since the late 70s.

A couple of #PeterHammill albums to start the day, first up is EnterK. 1982. First album with the K group. A couple of different covers for this one, I've got this. (without the 'a')
Peter Hammill's 2017 album, From The Trees, is just stunning. Who are the artists still producing work that's every bit the equal of their 'classic' period?

Also from other (prog) bands: Genesis, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Marillion, CSN,...
Interesting experiences.
#np #NowPlaying #VanDerGraafGenerator #PeterHammill “Fellow Travelers”, a bootleg, with a killer version of “Killer” (1971) & embryonic versions of half of “The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage”.

#np #NowPlaying️ Continuing the exploration of some of the less obvious #PeterHammill records. “Loops and Reels” & “Spur of the moment” (with Guy Evans). Sound (!) sound experiments.
#np #NowPlaying️ Continuing the exploration of some of the less obvious #PeterHammill records. “Sonix” & “Unsung”. Sound (!) sound experiments.
#np #NowPlaying️ Continuing the exploration of some of the less obvious #PeterHammill recordings. Dug up my VHS cassette of “In The Passionskirche - Berlin MCMXCII”, recorded 11 April 1992. Don’t know if it exists on DVD.
#np #NowPlaying️ Continuing the exploration of some of the less obvious #PeterHammill records. “And Close As This” (1986). Just the man, his voice and his piano, heavily treated but “still played by one pair of hands”.
#np #NowPlaying️ Continuing the exploration of some of the less obvious #PeterHammill records. An unofficial must have for every PH fan: “Skeletons of Songs” (1978).
#np #NowPlaying️ Continuing the exploration of some of the less obvious #PeterHammill records. “The Fall of the House of Usher”. Which version do you prefer: original ir deconstructed/rebuilt ? What of the singers ?
Exploring some of the less obvious #PeterHammill records. Starting with #GuyEvans’s “Union Chapel Concert”. Weird, raunchy, experimental, daring performances. Barber’s “Adagio for strings” by Hugh Banton on church organ is breathtaking.
#np #NowPlaying #PeterHammill Out of Water. First re-listen for years. Very dark and gloomy. Had forgotten how beautiful the original “A way out” really was.

It's always nice when someone discovers a favourite of yours.
Had my favourite mushroom trip to this album. A very long time ago, I hasten to add. Anyway, a cracking album. Side 2 is a belter.
#NowPlaying ...All That Might Have Been off of #PeterHammill. 2014. It's the three disc edition so should keep me busy until around 1000 #PlayEverything 375

Finding myself going through another period—more often than ever these days—of listening obsessively to Peter Hammill and Van der Graaf Generator. I’ve loved the music since I first bought Pawn Hearts in 1986 and had my life changed forever by its promise, even if that was 15 years too late.
I’m going to continue seeking out these pockets of genius in an increasingly cruel and difficult world. What else is there to do?
Anyway, tonight it’s ‘A Black Box’.
