Instagram - Pete Souza on Instagram: "“The Problem We All Live With” is an iconic painting by Norman Rockwell.⁣ ⁣ It depicts six-year-old Ruby Bridges being escorted to her first day of school in 1960. She became the first African American child to attend her elementary school after a federal court ordered the New Orleans school system to integrate. Ruby spent an entire year in a classroom by herself because white parents withdrew their children from school.⁣ ⁣ In 2011, the White House requested the loan of the painting from the Rockwell Museum, where it is a part of their permanent collection. President Obama chose to hang the painting outside the Oval Office so as many people as possible visiting the West Wing would see the painting while it was on loan. He even invited Ruby Bridges to view the painting in that location.⁣ ⁣ A film about Ruby Bridges has “temporarily” been banned from an elementary school in Florida after a parent filed a complaint, alleging that the film teaches students about racial slurs and how “white people hate black people.”⁣ ⁣ Meanwhile, permit less carry of a gun is one step closer to becoming the law in Florida ("no license or training required”) after passing the Florida House last week. The governor (you know his name) has expressed support.⁣ ⁣ This is fucked up.⁣ ⁣ ⁣"
