I don’t want to compromise the quality of the #petticoat and I did my best finishing the center back seams. I believe this is the last big hurdle of the making process 😮💨From here on, it should be smooth sailing. 🤞 #sewing

Only got 15 minutes to work on the #petticoat today and I’m glad I did. The incremental slivers of change to address overall unevenness I did for the past few days seem worthwhile ❤️ Temporarily pinning BOTH the under and over skirts on the dress form and smiling happily over the view.

Perhaps I’m attempting a bit of an accountability thread, but hopefully I do not put so much pressure on myself by doing this that my #PDA sets in and prevents me from *doing*.
I began working on a very basic sewing project several weeks ago, but I have not worked on a sewing project in 20+ years before this. I have started on a petticoat made of an old blue sheet to wear under my skirts as an extra layer of warmth at home where I keep my temperature pretty low.
It is essentially a scrap piece of fabric, so there isn’t much to ruin. And it should be good practice for other things I’d like to make some day. I have done some initial cutting and ironing, then some marking yesterday to cut the final dimensions. I am excited also to be using this old Singer I picked up a few months ago. I’ve sewn a few scraps with it and it runs like a champ.
My tentative goal is small, and is to simply make some progress this weekend. Any progress at all. If I make goals that are too big my #anxiety stops me in my tracks and I shut down and become entirely useless for days.
Sooo, hopefully I will add a picture to this thread later on documenting at least a small successful step in the process.

Red is the more popular color for trooping #fairies. As a result, the color was considered unlucky, even when on clothing or scarves worn by humans: Women wearing red petticoats were avoided in the west of #Ireland until recent times.

Women's right to propose on 29th February goes back hundreds of years. In Scotland, women should traditionally wear a red petticoat, like this 1758 quilted example from @CTHistorical@twitter.com, to ensure success when popping the question. #LeapDay #LeapYear2020 #fashionhistory #petticoat
