The next #miniature I want to get based is #BombshellMiniatures 20002 Shunkaha, which is a gorgeous metal #werewolf with a tomahawk (and an optional hat) that stands at 42mm.

The tools I vaguely referenced in last-week's toot are for plating metal. A thing I've been wanting to be able to do is cast something in #pewter but have it look like #brass, which I can now sort of do. I need to keep experimenting to see if I can get results that will stand up to buffing, but I'm feeling positive so far. The first photo is plating brass directly on bare pewter, the second is brass on top of copper plating.

Aside from drilling out a couple holes and permanently affixing some of the clasp pieces to each other, this #Aragorn project is done! I am really happy with my problem solving to translate someone else's 3D model work into functional metal replicas. It took me a little over 2 weeks from starting the first mold (and I still fit in over 60 miles of running in that time). Materials used: #pewter #brass #aluminum and a little JB Weld epoxy.

After working most of the weekend on this #Aragorn project, here's where I stand. All my molds worked great, and I'm now working on the functional hardware. None of the #pewter pieces will be bearing any of the physical tension. Instead, I'm mounting them to stronger metals like brass and steel.

I am working on a commission for some pieces to go on an #Aragorn #costume, and it's really been scratching all the right problem-solving itches. I'm working with #3DPrints designed by another maker, and turning them into functional metal costume accessories using #pewter, #brass, and aluminum. Maybe some steel, we'll see.

A few months ago I had an idea to make a #wand that incorporated the pommel design of Narsil/Anduril from The Lord of the Rings. So I 3D-modeled it, printed it at the scale I wanted, and cast it in #pewter. Then I lost steam on the project, and finally finished it this weekend. The wood is bocote that I turned on my #WoodLathe
I really like how it turned out. I had originally wanted to make it a lot more complex, with more design elements from the sword, but I now think simpler works best.

Not the mushrooms, the vicious #fey with the red caps that appear in D&D and Pathfinder as little spindly old men with iron-shod boots and over-sized weapons.
I'm sure somebody is selling an STL of a redcap, but I'm hoping somewhere is actually selling a #pewter/metal #miniature of one. I don't think I've ever encountered one.

One of the skills I picked up in the last year or so as I worked on my #armor was #pewter casting. I needed buckles that looked like the ones in the movie, and nothing I could find was close enough, so I made my own.
Since then, I've made a lot more pieces for myself and other #cosplayers but I'm very much still learning.
Typically, I 3D model the object first, print it, sand it, mold it using high-temp silicone, then cast it in pewter.
