When #PhDs in fields like #Psychology #economics #sociology

publish a paper, they should be required to do two things

provide a plain language summary for the layperson

provide data in a simple format that an avg person can understand, NOT just coefficients for the model

eg the actual number of events on the Y axis and Time on the X axis
or something like that

I don't know if any of those other measures show a decline. I can think of reasons why history might be in decline as a field. But maybe the numbers are static...

The most obvious explanation for why PhDs are not becoming professors is simply that American universities are graduating too many PhDs for the number of professorships available: oversupply. That doesn't prove decline at all.

Related to my last post, I'm more motivated than ever to pursue alt-ac positions now. I have a PhD in literature, so research and writing skills would be my top strengths. I actually love teaching and have been doing it for a decade, but the working conditions have become untenable. Anyone fellow #PhDs who have a non-academic job they love?
