Noticed your interesting bio. This is a little film of our House in the ruined village of Hallsands, Devon. The sea has taken much of what you see away. We can only access by ladder .

Breaks my heart. I miss that sea and its rhythms so much.

Any millionaire on mastodon, feel free to contact me. Damon Albarn of Blur owns a farm house near the next beach. He used to pop round from time to time.

Very good article on international philanthropy. The only thing I would add is that trust-based philanthropy and spend down by foundations are not by any means new. There is just greater realization that annual grants, micromanaging, restrictions and constant need for innovativeness is not effective. dailymaverick.co.za/opinionist

@StefR this is an old discussion or two different schools of thought around the question of who should have the power to funnel these available funds back into society- the or the and .I think that is the , because it is not only about who controls the available finds, is an important element of and , and it has greater flexibility to support wide range of causes.

Rich can't *save* reefs. Important essay in London Review of Books by Oxford Liam Shaw on the dire precarity of reefs and how messianic would-be saviors are failing to address the real issues of why these vital ecosystems are dying. Plus its a gorgeous piece of :
